"Destiny" Single by The Line Divides

The Line Divides are back with a hard-hitting new single "Destiny", their first release since their 2019 single "Hello Sunshine" and their second single since their iconic 2009 debut album "Signals and Sounds". The album is available on all major streaming platforms, including Spotify, Apple Music, and more. It's also available for download on Bandcamp.

The Line Divides have been a mainstay in the Cebu indie scene since the heydays of the 00s and have been a distinct part of the famed "Cebu sound" of that period. With "Destiny", the band continues to bring their synth-driven trademark and alt rock touch to their tunes. It’s engaging—-as Louie Tabaña, the band’s vocalist, points out— in the sense that, while bearing a melodramatic topic, it doesn’t end there and endeavors instead to lift the song to a whole new mood.

The song’s lyrics were written by Louie Tabaña and Nestor Abellana, the band’s vocalist and keyboard player respectively. They shared to us how the process of writing the song came to be.

“I started writing a few lines and experimented on tunes with a guitar. I shared my rough draft to Janjan and he added more to the writing and started building up the song's mood and nostalgia.”

Louie also said that they were constructing the portions of the song in their respective homes throughout the pandemic and would send works to each other online before eventually meeting together and working on the track together.

The single also features cover art from acclaimed creative director PJ Ong, also known as Inodoro™️. According to PJ, "they said it would be great if I could visualize it. I knew from then on I didn’t want to make it too literal and proceeded with an abstract approach. Balancing my style with their vision. After listening to the song repeatedly, I wanted to incorporate the electric feel, that heavy synth-influence and at the same time capturing the same energy of the song in the artwork. Enough to leave more room for interpretations.”

With all of that said, Destiny is a work of art created by all of the people involved in its production. Even in this difficult time of the pandemic, the band aims to reach out and inspire everyone, encouraging them to be transported back to the days when we all used to attend live face-to-face gigs. Listening to The Line Divides' Destiny will certainly evoke feelings of nostalgia and it's a sort of nostalgia that you'll want to keep listening to.
