"notes" EP by markmuffins

Lofi and bedroom artist markmuffins dropped his 2nd EP - Notes - out of nowhere! According to him, the project was almost scrapped due to lost files and was only released via unfinished Soundcloud tracks. Dabbling more into shoegaze, Notes presents listeners with a wall of noise from start to finish but still keeping the lofi and melody that made his first EP iconic. Though his ear for melodies is still spot on, I do feel that the layers of distortion are too harsh - even as a representation of anguish - that drown out the punchy bass and atmospheric guitars underneath. I also found "i hope you knew" a bit too long - shortening it to maybe half the length would have made for a better listening experience overall. Still, if you're a fan of shoegaze, there are still great nuggets of sound in this release.
