"Sabik" Single by Nanay Mo

The pandemic did nothing to hinder the hard-hitting rock of Nanay MoSabik feels like a localized Velvet Revolver piece complete with infectious guitar riffs, a thumping bass line, and falsettos to round out the sound. I can't wait for more new music!

Following the 2019 satirical Shabu-shabu campaign that sniped at brazen inhumanity and perpetuating political clichés, and the explorations in remote recording through the Ang Kalat Ng Kwarto Mo sessions in 2020, Nanay Mo opens a new chapter with observations of past trials and forays into adulthood. Sabik is a tableau in rhythm and noise of a stoner coming to grips with maturity. Its conception was an exercise in survival. The band sifted through several alternative means of songwriting and production - Discord, Telegram, Google, and whatever technology they could grab their hands on in order to keep on creating during the pandemic lockdowns. Though few and far in between, the band still managed to record majority of the song in Anton Magno’s Sunny Side Sounds studio, wherein the bass, guitars, percussions and drums were done. Jong Cardenas recorded his vocals and Kubing in his home studio.

Sabik, mixed by Anton Magno and mastered by Cholo Hermosa of 15D Studios, is the first of three songs written and produced during the pandemic, which are set to be released in 2021 accompanied by a series of videos, art, and merchandise. Nanay mo is collaborating with several different artists for the illustrations of each song. For Sabik, Ingrid Sarayba illustrated and animated the Pigeon Man, Jong Cardenas illustrated and animated the OBB, and John Tan designed the cover art.
