"SONIC BOOM" Album by FERVIDS

I remember back in high school my first introduction to The Rolling Stones was a CD of Sticky Fingers on a warm Sunday afternoon. The fuzz was blaring and the raspiness of the old recording was echoing through the house. SONIC BOOM resonates with me the same way and I was transported to a simpler time of blaring vocals and fuzzed and overdriven guitars.

The band let their influences shine in this new album - taking cues from 60’s bands like The Kinks, The Rolling Stones, early Bob Dylan, early The Who, and other bands that start with “The” during that time period. SONIC BOOM sounds like it was recorded from an old vinyl - with lofi vocals and fuzzed out guitars letting the rawness and charm shine in every song. Slower songs like CAST, and I WANT YOU ALL THE SAME channel folk rock heroes like Bob Dylan - giving more texture to a record that demands the listener’s full undivided attention. It harkens back to a time when you really had to sit down and listen to an album in full.

Rock and roll may have set their imprint in the past but there is no harm in revisiting older music especially as tastefully done in this record. I look forward to how the band can make this genre progress for the future.
