2wenty 2unes: UPMC 22nd Anniversary Gig - Happy HBD 2 U! (10.23.2020)

The pandemic didn’t stop the UP Music Circle from celebrating their 22 years of existence with 2wenty 2unes - even if the event was a couple months late. The creativity of the music org was on full display with the background image being an homage to the smoking area of Mow’s with doodles of gig-goers on a mid-set break. The hosts were their usual punny selves which kept the evening and transitions very light and energetic. This time, they were hosting in the same space which improved their chemistry and back and forth banter.

Alexia Cryze was a soulful and solemn introduction to the frantic evening. Water The Odds made really good use of the recorded performance medium by having members sing multiple parts. (formerly Maryknoll) threw another awesome set. Calling it a fever dream is selling it short but the set was very engaging and entertaining. Serotonin was up next and I really appreciated their multi-layer song arrangements. Paprika! brought the funk and a horns section to the evening. Parlor Parlor played an on brand set of videos in the context of cramming everything for the event with a UPMC rep’s follow up even making an appearance in the meta-video. Granny Lee ended the night with some more soul but with a very clean execution and powerful vocals.

The evening was not just a celebration of a music community but in support of a crucial segment of the industry - roadies! Proceeds from the event went to Roadie Superstar. If you’d also like to help, donation details are below.
