"Walang Pinag-Iba" Gig Review

Last June 10, 92 individuals were wrongfully jailed while they were asserting the farmer's rights to land ownership. They have already been freed but are still experience harassment through additional cases still being filed against them. This gig produced by ARPAK was organized for the benefit of paying the legal fees and I wish more people went because the bands were awesome and the talks were heartfelt and informative.

The event opened with a human beat machine - a type of act I have not watched in years! It was followed up by a folk group who I'm sorry I've forgotten the name of. Asoge's set was next and it was interesting to hear a noise set. Punk group Pry were up next with an assortment of familiar faces and the set was electric - one of the newer bands I will be watching out for. Barricade was next and played a genre I have not heard in year - post rock! The ambient tunes gave an air of interesting textures and was a good respite from all the emo and punk in the event. Limbs were next and led the audience to moshing with the transcendent hardcore and experimental sound. Irrevocable played with energy from start to finish - I don't know where they it from! Emo trio The Mind Is A Terrible Thing were next and played another solid set - becoming regulars in the gig scene as of late. Tidal announced the end of the Fete de la Musique Emo stage for the evening and played a very organized set featuring a lot of new and old songs.

ARPAK are still fighting the good fight even against all odds - odds that will surely be greater given the new administration leading the country for the next 6 years. We can do our part and support this and similar groups in a struggle that not only affects farmers but everyone.
