Obsolete. has just announced the release dates for his upcoming singles, AshesThin Air, and Omen. The three singles will be released individually but form a concept trilogy showcasing Obsolete.'s brand of instrumental soundscapes.

The first of the trilogy, Ashes, was released on November 13th. "I was finishing up a cigarette and I noticed how the ashes from the tip flaked off and started swirling in the wind," Cang says on the track's inspiration. "That kind of just gave me the inspiration for how Ashes (and the rest of the trilogy) was going to sound like: slow, dark, and brooding."

On the stylistic aspects, "Ashes starts and ends with a simple motif, a motif I feel is applied in different contexts throughout the song. It's meant to describe inner turmoil, from slow building anxiety to full blown skepticism."

As the start of a trilogy, it’s very promising. Delivering on the promise of a brooding sound leading to a build-up that doesn’t exist yet but with enough flow to keep the listener engaged all throughout. It’s one of those songs where I wished it were longer. But, again, a good start and a good promise for the upcoming songs.

The series features cover art by Melt Records creative director, PJ Ong (Inodoro™️). "This three-part artwork, a series with an evolutionary progression, was borne out of an intention to convey the ambient nature of each of the tracks," PJ says. "Meant to be a far cry from the usual post-rock imagery, it is a poetic expression that makes use of grainy, rough and blurry manipulations, taking inspiration from the character of the music."

After Ashes, the second part Thin Air is scheduled to release a month later on December 11th. The final part, Omen, will conclude the trilogy on January 8th.
