"Cambiando" EP by Chelsea Dawn

It's finally here - Chelsea Dawn's long-awaited EP Cambiando is out now on streaming platforms including Spotify, Apple Music, and more, as well as for digital downloads on the Melt Records Bandcamp page. The album consists of 6 tracks, including recently released singles Umbra and the carrier single Lumiere.

In her chat with Melt Records, she describes it as a mix of different feels and textures, but all part of the same story. Despite a rough start during the onset of the pandemic, Chelsea managed to find her groove to finally finish the EP and we're all happy it's finally out.

"Cambiando comes from the Spanish root word cambio meaning 'arriving at a fresh phase' or 'becoming new'," says Chelsea on the EP's subject matter. "I'm trying to make that change happen." The album features album art by Amber Tashiro, aptly depicting a figure reaching for the moon symbolic of the change being sought out by the artist Performing with Chelsea on the album are Liwayway Tanatan on drums and Abe Jun Esquibel on bass. Most tracks were produced by Dhen Dart Gonzales (Under The Mango Tree Productions), with the exception of Umbra which was produced by Jerry Catarata.

As for what's next, Chelsea promises more projects this year - including a music video that's already in the works. Stay tuned for more great stuff from this awesome singer-songwriter from Dumaguete!

Her folk roots are in full display from the get go with a multi-layered vocal/instrumental intro. Multiple genre influences also permeate throughout the EP from alternative folk, to blues, and even some world sprinkled around making for an interesting listen. Standout track would be “Bundak” with it’s changes in tempo and multiple instances of sound building. I only wish I understood language but the mystery adds to the charm.
