All Our Friends Music Festival

I really miss gigs. I really do. Gigs have always been my safe haven - even with all the moshing and exhaustion from staying up all night. It’s where I can get lost in everything that’s happening - hanging out with friends, listening to good music, discovering new artists, eating lugaw after gigs, drinking milktea during gigs, and even eating siomai in between sets. This pandemic has taken away something I always look forward to on weekends.

Online gigs are trying their hardest to scratch everyone’s gig itch since last year and Alternatrip is going to do it’s best to get to those hard to reach areas. With 22 bands in the line up - 14 local acts and 8 international ones - All Our Friends is looking to be the biggest party this summer.

On the local front, there are too many to count. Pedicab and Cheats are there to bring the house down. The Gentle Isolation, Cinema Lumiere, and Grrl Cloud are there for the mellow vibes. Rusty Machines, The Geeks, Spacedog Spacecat, We Are Imaginary, and Ang Bandang Shirley are there to keep the fun moving at a steady pace. Identikit and Grandi Oso are hoping to test your musical sensibilities. Up-and-comers Hazylazy and (formerly Maryknoll) are out to prove they can hang with everyone. All these bands I have either watched live or want to watch live and this is the perfect avenue to relive those moments and dream of what could be.

I’m most excited about listening and watching the international bands play. On the first day, you’ve got a lot of indie pop and dream pop bands likes in the for of favorites Rocketship - whose music I first heard on a Shoegaze Pilipinas guesting. Dream pop/indie pop/shoegaze band I Saw You Yesterday perfectly fits the bill with the dreamy and beach-appropriate sound. Philippine indie pop veteran Dale Marquez’ new band The Summer Triangle bring some haunting techno sounds to the mix while you can expect jangle-y 60’s inspired melodies from The Umbrella Puzzles.

Day 2’s line up of international artists are also worth looking out for. Strawberry Generation are bringing their mix of dream pop vocals and indie sounds. Archaster is bringing more melancholic music. Belinda May are mixing both indie pop and shoegaze sensibilities while Nothern Portraits’ Stefan Larsen will also debut his new project - The Saint Larsen.
