"THESE DAYS: Ourselves The Elves Live" Gig Review

This gig was big for two things - one is that THE ELVES ARE BACK while the other is it's time for Dirty Kitchen to redeem itself. The event space in the first floor is bigger than the speak easy and could even house the 300+ crowd that came to watch the Elves play again. The equipment was better with sound engineers and a better drum set which had an issue towards the end of the night.

The evening started with a ukulele set by Charleen Ong showing some great vocal work that shined over the ukulele strums. Next up was an electric set from The Buildings that forced the sit-down crowd to mosh from start to finish. A chill hiphop set from Waiian broke the moshing energy and got people rapping to iconic verses while drifting through with the beats. Megumi Acorda was next and while there were some difficulties with the drums and sound system, the still delivered a tear-jerking set. Last up were Ourselves The Elves - making their first appearance in years. They played a long set with a similar set list to what they played at their album launch and it was just nostalgic.

The actual event space was better for a gig than the speakeasy and watching the Elves play again took me back to 2018/2019 when times were simpler. Back then, the crowd the was smaller in the cramp basement that is Mow's but the camaraderie of supporting great music that was present then is still present now.
