I never thought of promoting music from other countries but I thank Kolibri Records for the opportunity. The song takes Grrrl Gang to a more 90's alternative inspired sound compared to the pop rock vibe of the last EP. It sounds like an opening theme song to a 90's sitcom and is easy enough to get into. Can't wait for new songs from them!

Jakarta - The indiepop/indierock trio hailing from Yogyakarta, Grrrl Gang, is back with a new single titled "Honey, Baby" that dropped today. A sweet, medium-tempo tune that continues to highlight guitar as a significant element, "Honey, Baby" is Grrrl Gang's first song in three years since the 2018 EP, Not Sad, Not Fulfilled. Different from their previous music and releases, this single features a new 90s alternative nuance and new musical direction that can be sensed right away.

Originally written by vocalist/guitarist, Angeeta Sentana, in early 2019, "Honey, Baby" is a love song she composed that encapsulates her story and emotions in navigating a relationship.

"I tried to reflect and bear out how sweet my relationship was at that time, even though I knew the journey wouldn't be easy. Maybe this song is my way of saying, 'Hey, I am willing to go through this, are you?'" Angee said. She explained that it took her several months to write "Honey, Baby" in order to capture her feelings as true as they can be, following how the relationship went.

Moreover, "Honey, Baby" also debuts as Grrrl Gang's first song which the members fully worked on and produced in Jakarta. In order to do so, they teamed up with The Adams' bassist, Pandu Fuzztoni, who took on the role as a co-producer. Guitarist Edo Alventa said, "It took us a long time to perfect this song to its current form. Pandu helped us a lot from the recording, mixing, to finding new perspectives."

Edo added that "Honey, Baby" became somewhat a stepping stone for their maturity in terms of song arrangement. "You could say that this time we were more patient. The parts distribution, chord progression, and melody placement changed a lot from what we did before. In 'Honey, Baby' we considered everything more sensibly."

Grrrl Gang didn't put out "Honey, Baby" solely on its own, rather a music video crafted by the members and their friends in Yogyakarta is ready to accompany the new single. Entrusting Carkultera "Kome" Wage Sae to take on the director's chair, the music video for "Honey, Baby" is a collaboration that once again reunited Grrrl Gang and Kome since the "Bathroom/Thrills" music video they previously worked on four years ago.

In early 2020, Grrrl Gang had just officially joined and released a discography album with London-based record label, Damnably, which prompted their invitation to perform at 2020 SXSW Music Festival in the United States. Right after they got a hold of their plane tickets, the pandemic broke out. This resulted in the festival's cancelation and Grrrl Gang's failure to go to America. How and what would happen next if 2020 had never seen a pandemic? This picture is what Kome successfully and comedically painted in the "Honey, Baby" music video.

"Bottom line is, we made this music video to laugh at ourselves," bassist Akbar Rumandung explained. "Grrrl Gang was asked to retell about what would've happened in 2020 if the pandemic had never occurred. It's actually loaded with irony and unrest, but we displayed it in a joyful symbolism."

"Honey, Baby" is available on all streaming platforms and will also be up for grabs in 7" colored vinyl via Damnably as well as a special edition CD-R format via Kolibri Rekords soon. Grrrl Gang consist of Angeeta Sentana (vocals/guitar), Akbar Rumandung (bass/vocals), and Edo Alventa (guitar/vocals).
